Case Study

This is an actual case study of one of our client, this has been cited here only as an example of our capabilities.

Name of the Client
State Public Works Department (PWD) – a State Government agency involved in Public Utility Construction in the state of Madhya Pradesh (MP).

Project Objective

The PWD, in its preparation for the Singhast Mela 2004, is in the process of identifying location of utility roads and satellite-townships around the holy city of Ujjain. To help the planning process, officials at PWD want to create a district master plan of existing roads and habitats (villages) in the form of a map. The map should be :

1. Accurate, because this map shall form the basis for measuring proposed roads, and distances / areas of proposed townships.

2. Comprehensive, to display the locations of habitations, the existing road network, existing rail network, rivers, water bodies on a single map.

Inputs Provided
The client had two different paper-maps one showing the existing road map, and the other was a district census map showing the locations and names of the habitations. These maps were in different scales, and it was communicated to us that the maps might not be accurate in relative distances.

Solution Offered
  • We converted the two maps into two different raster images by scanning the maps using A-0 size scanner.
  • We matched the scale of the two maps by performing “stretch and transform” operations to match the prominent landmarks.
  • We then used AutoCAD tool to create a vector image in a new layer keeping these raster images in background layer.
  • Then we referred to the accurate maps provided by “The Survey of India” to perform accuracy checks on the new vector image.
  • The final output after checks has been printed.
